Japanese Boro Textile Panel with Checked Cotton and Hand-Stitched Repairs
● Acquired
Details
Size: Approximately 15 by 25.5 inches (38.1 by 64.8 cm)
Japan · Circa 1900 · Cotton
A broad dark patch sits against the faded blue checks on this Japanese boro panel. Around it, you can see the hand stitching, seams, and repairs that hold the cotton together.
Turn it over and a long striped panel reinforces the other face. The two sides show the same construction in quite different ways.
Its narrow shape works well for framing or textile mounting, with either side on show.

It’s in good antique condition, with the hand repairs still in place throughout. There’s age-related surface wear and fraying along parts of the cotton and its edges, with visible patches and seams.
